02 — Logo & Assets
The nib is the mark. The name is always written The Memoir Co.
The nib is unlettered — nothing is ever set inside it — and it may stand alone where the brand is already understood. Never all capitals, never “MC”, never an “M” monogram. Every PNG here is rasterised live from the vector master in the colourway you select, so previews and downloads always match.
The mark
A publisher's imprint rather than a service logo: it must read stamped, in one colour, at 16px. Choose a colourway before downloading.
Nib mark
Favicons, app icons, social avatars, wax seals, spine feet, watermarks and small maker's marks. Navy is the default; gold is reserved for ceremony, cream for reversing out of navy.
Nib mark — on a ground
Where the mark sits in a filled panel: foil stamps, slipcases, gift cards, presentation covers. Exports include the background, so nothing is transparent.
Signature suite
Compact is the working default. Primary adds the positioning line; stacked serves centred and narrow layouts.
Primary signature
Mark + wordmark + “Your story. Your words.” Presentation covers, campaign end frames, generous brand moments. Minimum 300px wide.
Compact signature
Website headers, navigation, letterheads, proposals, invoices, email signatures. Minimum 140px wide.
Stacked signature
Centred or narrow layouts, frontispieces, gift cards, event materials.
Reversed signature
Website footers and any navy panel. Cream on navy, or gold on navy for premium moments; always smaller than the header lockup.
Avatars & favicon
Avatars use the nib alone, optically centred with generous safe area for circular cropping.
Square avatar
LinkedIn, Facebook and profile grids. Exported at 1024px with the background baked in.
Circular avatar
Instagram, X, YouTube and comment avatars. Mark reduced so nothing touches the crop.
Favicon set
Prepare 16, 32, 48, 180, 192 and 512px plus SVG. Nib only — never the wordmark. Download the 1024px master and reduce.
Clear space & minimum size
Clear space
- Mark: at least one breather-hole diameter on all sides.
- Signatures: the same measure around the complete lockup.
- Nothing enters the clear space — not rules, type or image edges.
Minimum size
- Nib mark: 16px digital / 5mm print.
- Compact signature: 140px digital / 38mm print.
- Primary signature with positioning line: 300px digital / 75mm print.
- If the positioning line isn't clearly readable, use the compact signature.
Never
- Put words inside the nib
- Set the name in all capitals
- Abbreviate to “MC” or an “M” monogram
- Stretch, outline or recolour the mark
- Add drop shadows or simulated metallic gradients
- Alter the aperture or the slit
- Place it on busy, low-contrast imagery
- Crop into the clear space
